All she's said is that yes, power-wise David is better but that Josh is the overall better singer because he has more range - and of course I disagree with that and think she's throwing up a smokescreen to avoid admitting she doesn't like Christian music!!

I'd say that you're right! You should play a copy of David's version of "THE PRAYER" for your friend. She might have a tough time choosing between the 2. laugh.gif

James...I wouldn't compare that particular song!! Pick another one! laugh.gif laugh.gif

Now this is what I'm looking for! Yes, I agree with everyone about not being able to really compare Josh and David. I guess I want my friend to admit she doesn't care for David's music instead of throwing up all these other excuses! And yes, we've been friends for over 20 years now so I can be argumentative with her!

It's much easier to ARGUE with someone if you can establish some facts, so it's not really factual if they say "Josh G. is better!" Now, if this person says "I prefer Opera music", then the debate is on. laugh.gif I can ARGUE with someone all day long on why Jeff Buckley was a better singer than say ... Justin Timberlake. In the end, I really can't change THEIR mind, but I'll do my best to try. (Although I KNOW that I'm right!!!)

To show how different musicians can be here's an example - Jeff Buckley (one of my ALL TIME favorite singers) had a 4 octave voice. His father, Tim Buckley (another of my favs) had a 4 octave voice at the young age of 17!

Kellie...there was just a spot on some program where a big name (can't remember, maybe you heard it..someone like Barbra Streisand) anyway, the ticket price was so high that they country she (it was a she laugh.gif ) was going to cancelled the concert saying the price for tickets was "outrageous"..thought it was interesting..never heard of that happening before!!!

I did hear about that. I remember checking on prices (out of curiosity) for the last/current Rolling Stones tour (don't know if it's still going on or not), and the absolute cheapest ticket prices I found (and these were in the nosebleeds) were around $350. Some of the tickets for their concerts in NYC were going for well over $1000.
I only know one entertainer I would spend that kind of money for and if I did, it had better be a charity event!!! laugh.gif laugh.gif Like you said, they charge it...people pay it!!

I always get in trouble when this question comes up...as stated in the past...you can't compare the two...Josh is NOT a tenor!!!!!!! They are both great, and I used this quote because I would have payed more to see Josh live and it was worth every penny and I would do it again...I think dp way under charges for his concerts!! So again..apples and oranges..I Love them both for very DIFFERENT reasons..and I thought he was good on AI...I must have been watching a different show! laugh.gif laugh.gif Haven't changed my mind since the last "discussion" about these two!!

Thank you Janette! laugh.gif I've said it a MILLION & ONE times, but comparing Josh Groban & David Phelps is like comparing apples & oranges. Josh isn't a tenor, therefore the quality of his voice is simply different than David's. I can see a comparison between ... Sarah Brightman & Charlotte Church for instance. They both sing similar music, so a comparison would be fair. However, a real side-by-side comparison of David & Josh is really not a "fair" comparison.

To show how different musicians can be here's an example - Jeff Buckley (one of my ALL TIME favorite singers) had a 4 octave voice. His father, Tim Buckley (another of my favs) had a 4 octave voice at the young age of 17! They both could sing a song (especially in a high octave) that could make an angel cry, but they took different paths musically. Jeff Buckley ranged from grunge music to standards all in 1 album! Tim Buckley mainly did folk/avant garde music. They made completely different genres of music & really didn't resemble each other vocally. Other than being father & son, I don't compare the two. So, even IF David & Josh matched each other note for note, it's really up to the listener to decide who's "better".

I like David & Josh for different reasons, just like Janette. I will give Josh Groban credit, he's very generous with his fans, in the few years since he started singing, he's released 3 wonderful albums, 2 exciting concert DVDs & recorded quite a few duets with other respected artists & recorded several songs for other albums/soundtracks etc. He's been very busy!

I'm sure that this debate will go on for quite some time, but I am here to say that I ENJOY THEM BOTH.
