Bravo, James!! <<clap, clap, applause>>

David is my favorite. Love Josh. I'm glad we have them both.

When I first read this post, I was thinking (to myself) that David has the biggest range of the two, hands down. But I've been on uTube tonight listening to bunch of Josh's stuff, and especially a number he did with Sarah Brightman and his range is greater than I thought it was. I still think David's is bigger, but it's closer than I thought.
And I have to disagree about the power issue. I don't think it's a matter of opinion. Some things just ARE. David's voice IS more powerful than Josh's. But all that doesn't mean that Josh isn't great. He is. And from what I can tell, a very nice young man. I enjoy listening to most of what he does. He selects good songs. They don't really inspire me as much as David's do, but musically, they are wonderful.

You know who's voice I'm really in love with now?? Marsh Hall's. Mmmm mmm. That boy can sang. Not so powerful, not huge range....just really beautiful.

tut tut meant to put this in my last post...

yes joshs voice is lovely and deep and carries lots of emotion,
BUT
there is something special about davids voice and i cant put my finger on it...the tone? the quality? or both...but there is something there that NO OTHER singer i have ever heard has, david is a one off in every way laugh.gif just thinking about that voice just gives me shivers..no ones voice is like david and no ones ever will be again...i think i wrote on a video on youtube once...something like...once in a lifetime a special singer comes along and david is in mine

hannah x

Hannah, if I could've put your last 3 posts on here as quote I would, as EVERYTHING you said is ditto to my pheelings exactly!! I too had never heard of Josh before, so I openly watched the 2 versions that you gave. I admit Josh to having a nice voice, but it didn't grab me like the phirst time I heard David, and I believe as everyone has already stated, he uses it for God as well, which makes all the difference in the world to me.
I know some are getting upset I believe that we're comparing, but I can't help it. I have only recently even heard of David, so it's fresh how my reaction was to his music, and voice when I heard it, which is why I've even become a board member. I don't usually do things like that, but after I heard him, I had to learn all about this artist with the special voice, and I must say, all I've come to learn has only added fuel to the fire, so to speak in my appreciation of him, and his ministry!!
Sorry I was so long winded, but Hannah, you've known him 7 yrs. I believe you said, and still haven't heard him...I've not even known him a year, and got my first taste this past May, and I have to tell you I was not disappointed...he's even better live!! Amazing voice, and I believe it'll be a long time before another David ever comes around....I pray you'll be able to see him soon!!!

I have to admit I had never heard of Josh Groban until I came on this board. But after listening to both versions of O Holy Night, IMHO David wins hands down. He not only has an incredible voice, but the depth of emotion that is present when he sings, which I believe is the Holy Spirit, gives me chills.

Debbie....guess we both had the same idea this morning...my curiosity got the best of me about this range thing..so I went online this morning also...and found this quote regarding JG's "Closer" cd...

"Groban has an amazing range, at least three and a half octaves when we include his gorgeous falsetto"

So, I guess we both learned something today... laugh.gif

[/b]
i looked it up also....found the same info you did janette
now......David sings "just as i am"....that is 3 1/2 octive song with no falsetto
sounds like a nudge towards david
Well, robroy...this has never been about a contest to me...I think they both win in their own right. Not comparing...never have...never willl...two different singers....I was just curious about the range thing...I listen to what sounds good to me...I don't think about all that other stuff. laugh.gif laugh.gif
well....actually me 2
i wish i had half the talent of either 1 of them.i like em both
i dont think a "contest"is fair to them....its all in what the listener likes
just figured it was worth mentioning about the actual, vocal range
if you were to add falsetto.......i wonder what the total octive range for David would be
laugh.gif laugh.gif I would settle for 1/100th of their talent!!! laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

BUT during the concert i kept thinking if this is what josh sounds like live...WHAT MUST DAVID SOUND LIKE???( i unfortunatly havnt heard david yet

I had the pleasure of hearing David live last year at the Crystal Cathedral - it was so fantastic!!!!!!! I didn't think anyone could sound like that in person without all sorts of special equipment! Of course what could be more special that a God-given talent?

well said...davids talent is a gift from god...maybe thats the special ingredient that makes it soooo special  x
