It was a glorious day! It was a beautiful Oklahoma fall day. I didn't lose an hour of sleep due to our early morning departure thanks to the time change. I got to meet LeeG. I got to see AuntLiz and OKRuth again. I got to see and hear David sing. I got to visit with Jack. Got to check in on Martha. I got to visit the boys of Julian Drive and hear them peform a full concert. It was absolutely wonderful.
David was wonderful as he always is. I, like the others, loved his rendention of His Eye Is On the Sparrow. The only thing that would have made it any better for me would have been for him to sing Already There.
We were sitting front and center (as usual) for David's performance. The pastor of Council Road BC was very good and I really appreciated his teaching. However, I knew I couldn't sit through both services without getting uncomfortable. So I excused myself after David sang in the second service. I went to the foyer and walked around and visited with Jack who was manning the product table. That is when I inquired about "the box" and its contents. He said that it was most definitely the real thing as he smelled it. He didn't even open the box, just returned it to JD by storing it on their bus along with the crickets. I asked him if he and David knew that Julian Drive was performing five miles up the road. He said no, he didn't and immediately took out his cell phone and called one of them (I didn't know til later that it was Brian, the drummer). He sang something into the phone then said, hey I'm five miles away; call me.
So after bidding David & Jack goodbye, Bill, Ruth, Liz, Lee and I headed out to lunch. And then we all went to Martha's to see how she was doing. We had a nice visit with Martha, but didn't want to tire her out. Lee and Liz had to be back to DFW by 6 PM, Ruth was going to visit the Murrah Memorial and Bill and I headed over to see Julian Drive.
The Cathedral of Praise was having an all-day family festival with games and food booths. We spotted the guys and headed over to talk to them. They were so excited to see us and so excited that Jack had come by to see them. I got to claim credit for letting Jack know where they were. I heard the story of how Jack surprised them from each one of them: seems Jack walked in while they were in a circle praying and he went over and laid his head on Brian's chest. Brian said he didn't know what to think; he opened his eyes and saw this head and he nudged Jesse. Then he looked closer at this person and thought "that looks like Jack!" and then Jack turned his head so Brian could see his face and said something like hi, how ya doin'?
We visited with each of them - Sean, Shane, Jesse, James and Brian - Bill made a joke in reference to the practical jokes they traded with DP and crew. They could not believe that we all knew about it. I told them they should know that anything concerning David can't be kept from the PhelpsPhans. Jack was also incredulous that we knew about that incident. Jesse and Brian claim that David started the "war" and knowing how David likes practical jokes, I believe them. But what he did to start it, they didn't say.
They started their concert with a blues version of Blessed Assurance and went from there. Shane told of how he'd been having some problems with his voice, but that God had been working and it was getting better. They finished up with The Power of Love. Then the crowd begged for one more and Shane said he didn't know if he could do another one, but he'd try. So they did John the Revelator, a rockin' version. It was great!
We went up to say goodbye and wish them all well and hoped we'd see them again. They said that should David ask, they would gladly join him again. And for those of you curious about them - - Shane is 33, James is 27, Sean and Jesse are 23, and I think Brian is 24. Brian is the only one married at present. But Sean is getting married soon and James has a girlfriend. Shane could use prayer regarding his voice issues and Brian is praying for endorsement so he can get some new equipment. They are an absolutely great bunch of guys. I enjoyed getting acquainted with them during the Pentatour and will definitely look forward to seeing them again.
