Brandon Heath was named best new artist last year and is more in the pop/contemporary department, plus he had 'song of the year' this year, all of which contributed to his win as best male vocalist last night.
Brandon is a good vocal stylist, but as just about everyone here knows, he cannot hold a candle to David as a vocalist.
I see Wes' video humorously refers to David as "The Android" -- probably referring to David's mind-blowing range and clean, brilliant delivery. But I don't think this fits at all. David's tone is really, really clean, but that doesn't mean he sounds robotic or lacks feeling -- quite the opposite. He has a plaintive sound that is perfect for gospel music and which "lifts you up and brings you to your knees at the same time," as Mary Jo commented.
Willie, I think what he meant by "vocal android" wasn't about sounding like a robot as much as the ability to sing like no other....maybe I'm not wording this right, but that is my thinking......anyone else come up with a better way of describing what Wes meant?
