Nov 27 Freeport IL David Phelps Christmas Concert

Amazing, just amazing!

The Nov 27th Christmas Concert started with a choir singing Angel Lullaby and then going into O Come O Come Emanuel and The Singer and Hallelujah Chorus. David was wearing a black turtleneck, with a light grey suitjack and medium grey scarf, with black pants. The stage had a backdrop of lights simulating the stars. After the Hallelujah Chorus, forgive me, but I lost track of the song order. He did selections from Joy, Joy, One Wintry Night, and the David Phelps Christmas. But he also did selections with Jack and Sherry, from his new project, David Phelps Family Band (kinda wished he'd spelled Family with Ph, but only we would understand that!

David mentioned having problems with the dry cold air, and his voice occasionally gave out, but he worked through it.

Even so, he sang Ave Maria, Nessa Dorma AND Oh Holy Night in great form. His endurance is amazing.

He also sang from GVB Greatly Blessed "You Are My All in All", which the audiance really enjoyed and sang along with.

Thor Ramsey was also along and had us laughing.

The second half of the concert, David was dressed in a light blue shirt with a high collar, a black carnigan and black slacks.

David did not do Santa Claus, Get Well Soon. I don't recall he did any of the Santa Claus songs.

David spoke alot on Joy and Hope, it was a simple message from his heart.

David ended the concert with End of the Beginning...wonder if that was for Gretchen!

I saw Lori Phelps after the concert but didn't get to chat.

A friend of mine from church went with me. It was her first David Phelps concert. She enjoyed it and remarked on the diversity of music he does.

My camera got a few good shots. The mist was thick onstage and I had trouble focusing the camera. You can view the photos on photobucket by going to

Thanks for the review Anne, and pictures :)

Too bad I didn't have those cue cards for EOTB, huh? ;)
Yes, the air was very dry (and the booming bass from the other event in the building didn't help, either!) - but like, you said, David sang his heart out! :D :D

I remembered that David also sang Mary Did You Know. Just beautiful.

And Gretchen reminded me on facebook that David mentioned Gaither will be releasing a "Best of David Phelps" in March 2011, and a new solo project will be coming out Fall 2011.

Too funny!

The dry air must have made it difficult for him and the bass would have been so distracting (for me anyway), but David always gives his best, doesn't he?

yes he does! and he did! :D
he spoke prior to EOTB and apologized (which I didn't think was necessary) ;)

I don't think an apology would be necessary either. On David's worst vocal day, it would still be greater than anyone else I have ever heard and this is not only because of David's vocal brilliance, but because of his heart as well.
