How to make a sitcom

Postby AliveAgain » Mon Jun 18, 2012 3:58 am

Wanna be successful in tv? Heeeere´s the ingredients!
1. Pick a main cast of about 5-6 people.
2. One of the characters must be either a bit stupid or difficult in some way.
3. A suggestion for a name for the stupid one is "Joey".
4. To increase confusion, change the first or last name of one of the charaters either after the pilot or after a season.
5. Change the way the set looks are the pilot.
6. As you go along and make more seasons, change some facts so that what the viewers have learned earlier no longer makes sense.
7. If there is some sort of "heat" between two of the characters, make sure it takes ridiculously long for them to beome a couple.
8. When you pick you cast, make sure they all look like they walked out of a fashion magazine.
9. One of the characters should be someone who always comes to visit for no reason, and is always rude and demanding.
10. Well, think of the rest yourselves. I can´t do all the work, now can I?

Find a cast like AITF and you have a hit!! Carroll, Jean, Rob, and Sally clicked. There were tears and there was laughter but mostly the show was before it's time and there never has been a show like that one before or after. They brought us stories we all can relate to and learn. The adlibing brought so much to the show. When Mike and Gloria left to go to California, (seen it So many times) I cry everytime. Rob said they were Not acting. It was real. He said they became so close that they left their family at home in the mornings to go to their other Family to work. The cast made us feel like we were part of their Family. Even when Edith died Norman Lear (creator of the show) was upset. Jean told Mr. Lear "but she wasn't real". Mr. Lear said "she was to me". That's saying alot. They don't make them like that anymore. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZswNnGJcyWk
Did I say All In The Family is my favorite show of all time  :D

Eh. I´m, used to it. People don´t normally care what I write about much. I never get a lot of comments.
Still about sitcoms (and the guide to how to make them was of course a bit of a joke and a reference to those that exist/have existed), I don´t know if it is just me, but they just aren´t funny anymore. I have seen clips of "The big bang theory", "That 70´s show", "Two and a half men", "How I met your mother." And....not funny! Not in the least. When I saw "Friends" the first time I laughed my head off. And I loved "The Cosby show" (the first seasons at least), "Blossom", "Who´s the Boss?", "Full House." They just don´t make them that way anymore.

I know how you feel (makes me wonder why DP has over 5,000 members and so few fans posting) and I agree about the sitcoms!! Most are just stupid and silly. Shame!! Nothing like they did back in the 70s, even before then with the Andy Griffith show. Ron Howard was a better actor when he was a kid. I loved the Cosby show when the kids were growing up.
BTW, if there are any more AITF Fans, I found this http://forum.allinthefamilysit.com/list.php?1 :D

Well, The Big Bang Theory definitely gets my vote for being the funniest thing on TV. When I want a big laugh, I just look for a re-run of BBT. Once you are familiar with the characters, you see how funny they are, especially "Sheldon." Some of my past favorites have been the Nanny, Golden Girls and King of Queens which are all still on at night. All the new sitcoms are full of vulgarity and aren't funny to me.

Hey it's not that I don't care what you have to say, it's that you often say it really well. I don't usually feel the need to post. Either that or like on the what's your story, mine wouldn't be interesting to you. It's not like God delivered me from drugs or prostitution. It's just not interesting to people. No one cares about it. The who are you is a great topic. But as with earlier it's not something any of you would be interested in. It's just boring. I'm not interesting cool or even likable. I have no life. I have no friends. That's just the way it is. Any way, for me it's not that you aren't interesting. It's that I'm not.
